Sygate, supplier of the superb free personal firewall amongst other things, have set up a free service that will check your system for security issues like unblocked ports and trojans. There is a quick scan, which will quickly show if you have major problems, as well as several separate detailed checks.
Set up free mailing groups at smartgroups.com. Groups can be private or open to all. Members can choose to receive messages as individual emails, regular digests or online on the group website. The group site has many features such as group calendar, photo album, file storage and online database.
The group administrator can control many features of the group's site such as who has rights to add new items to the photo album or calendar.
Improve your website branding with a unique Favorites icon for visitors using IE5 and up. Don't know what we're talking about? Just go to Yahoo and click on "add to favorites". If you now look at your favourites you'll see a small red Yahoo icon just before the site name. The site contains some examples and the free online favicon generator.

If you don't have Usenet newsgroup access, maybe because you use the web at work, Google News is for you. They provide newsgroup access via a web page. You can even post messages to newsgroups. Be warned though there is some pretty tacky stuff there, not to mention potential viruses and spam!

Cybergeography is a fascinating site. It's an atlas of cyberspace showing you the major data flows and connection points of the net. There's also a good history of the net which alone makes the site worth a visit.
